My Boyfriend's Back

She: waits for his return, making the most of her Holidays without him.
He: returns.
She: made a pact that she would not cry this Christmas and was eager to talk about her strategies.
He: simply returns.
She: promises she won't have any expectations; i.e., that longing, hungry look in the eye that means, I not only missed you, I need you, I will consume you.
He: returned.
She: has planned a secret Christmas moment, but because she didn't tell him, it was too secret, and the moment passed.
He: returned.
She: gets mad at herself for having any expectations whatsoever, because in life in general, expectations lead to disappointment.
He: senses this, but doesn't know how to help her.
She: realizes that she really only cared about one thing all along; that
He: returned.

You can put the girl in a tu tu, but you can't make her dance

You can put the girl in a tu tu, but you can't make her dance.
She'll turn and point and curl her way around the stage
but only if she wants to
only if she desires
to dance.
You can dress her up to take her out, but you can't make her laugh
she'll listen and quip and devour the dish in front of her
but only if she wants to
only if she desires
to laugh.
You can warm her body and caress, but you can't make her move
she'll coo and roll and breathe in your breath
but only if she wants to
only if she desires
to move.
So you can trust that all she does she does because she wants to
She wants to dance
She wants to laugh
and she wants to move
with you.
